Thrifty Thursdays Waterfall Skirt

Heya,

How's everyone doing?  I've had a super busy week, lots of work and lots of studying.  I've enjoyed it, but, wow, I am tired!

On a much more exciting note, last night we went to see Michael McIntyre show in Sheffield!  It was brilliant!!! We bought the tickets when they came out about two years ago- but it was totally worth the effort!  I love that man, he never fails to make me laugh :D

Anyway, I wasn't actually this well dress for the event.  I went straight from work.

This skirt I picked up from a charity shop over the summer as a regular full length pleated granny skirt for £2.50, and had a go at DIYing it to waterfall skirt- I'm quite happy with the result.

This was my second go, actually, the first I gave to my sister because I cut it too short for me to wear, but she is fearless.

This time, I cut it quite conservatively until I got it to the length I wanted, took about half hour, and totally worth it :)  I just need an event to wear it to- like a comedy show, maybe...

Thrifty Thurdays (on a Friday)

Hey,

So, here is something you might not know about me- I love cats!!!

At home we have almost always had little furry friends, and, despite being allergic, I intend to get one when we move to a cat friendly home at some point.   I figure an antihistamine a day is a low price to pay for furry awesomeness.

Isn't it wicked!  Love it!  Knew I had to pick this up the minuet I sew it, especially as it was just £4.99.

I'm trying to mix it up to wear into the autumn months, as it is quite light.  But adding some thick tights, nice woolly cardigans and a hat, makes it totally feasible!

This week I'm joining up with Coffee and Cardigans 'Thrifter Thursdays' to show of one of my awesome second hand  finds.

This top is by Kate Moss for Topshop, and I picked it up for about £3.50.  Love a good bargain.  It's been in my wardrobe for about six months, I bought it just before my Charity Shop Challenge in April, and I love it!  It so pretty (flowers are definitely my thing) and it was perfect for day to day and work too.

It's a pretty good top to remix with different outfits too, there are at lest 5 different skirts or trousers that work with it perfectly, I guess I'll have to show you at some point.

Finished Dress

I finshed the dress I wrote about here!  

I'm so please with how it has turned out-  I'll definitely wear it :D

And I learnt some lessons on it's construction- which was the motive behind making it in the first place.

For example, I need to make the yoke slightly shorter to account for my petite-ness, and I learnt that I can make sleeves!  These were the first I've ever attempted and I'm very, very please with them!

This Old Thing?

Well ok, this old thing is pretty u-g-l-y!

Yes, that's a dress, not a night gown.

Its a size 18, which accounts for it tent like qualities on me, but I've wanted to have a go at refashioning a item for a while now, so for £3.50, why the heck not?  And, anyway, the extra fabric will probably be quite useful!

So, I bet your just dying to see what this was transformed into?

Huge transformation!

All from a few absolute ton of pins and some careful snips.

Anoyingly, however, it's is clear this is my first attempt, as I missed the line between fitted and ever so slightly  too small.  Irony, huh?

Never mind, a few pounds lighter and it'll fit like a glove.

Yes, Topshop jeans are expensive, and, not having owned a pair, I can't speak of their quality or value for money.  But, I can attest for their prettyness! I think they're lovely and would happily own a pair in each colour!!

I'm loving coloured jeans at the moment.  It took me a while to get my head around styling them, but not I think they are perfect for brightening up the British spring time!

It's been a very rainy day indeed!  Done a bit of shopping and knitting and not a lot else- I love holidays!!!

Charity Shop Challange

I've been inspired by the blog Second Hand or Bare Bottomed to challange myself, for the month of April, to put together an outfit of purely secondhand clothes and accessories, and I'm so excited!

Everyday during this coming month I'll be posting shots of my outfits- look out for my awkward 'fashion blogger' poses- and revieling just how little I paid for each item.  Most outfits will probably come to less than £10! 

Here are the rules;

• All items must be second hand, purchased from a charity shop, vintage fairs or hand-me-downs.
• Each day a new outfit must be posted- no rewearing an outfit, that's cheating!
• Items such as tights, leggings and vest tops are excempt from the challange- just my personal choice, really.

Easy enough really, I'd guess that even before I thought to try this challange a good 3rd or so of my wardrobe was already second hand, but I have gone an picked up a few more items in anticipation too.

One last thing, I'm going to Paris with my family during the Easter holidays, and have already picked out a (largly non-second hand) wardrobe for the trip, so for just three days, please forgive me!

Spring Fever!

A.K.A. What I love about Spring time.

The weather keeps promising us it's on it's way, but I'm weary as I know how quickly it can all change and we'll be knee deep in snow again!  But, all the same, I look forward with great anticipation for the spring weather to be finally here and here is why...

Holiday's- not only do I get school holidays again this year, but I'm also going to Paris for a couple of days with the fam! YAY!

The Fashion- the colours, the styles, it's all so beautiful and girly, I really love it!

The SUNSHINE! Naturally.  It makes you happier, more awake, and what else can you ask for than a beautiful day.

Flowers- I think fresh flowers in the house is fabulous.  I wish we could afford to have them all the time!  This spring I'm really loving multicoloured tulips, and plan on getting some as soon as possible.

My Birthday- I'm a spring baby, and I can't wait for a party and presents, of course!

and, finally, because it is the shortest wait for my favourite season off all- Summer will be here before we know it- YAY!

January Sales Update

I don't know about you, but I'm a sucker for a bargain. 

And the January sales have not brought the best out in me.

I may, or may not, have spent a little more than I intended to in the sales this year.

But I have bought some really beautiful items, for example...

This silky pink blazer jacket from Topshop, reduced from £55 down to £25.

This gorgeous skirt, from Topshop, £24 down to £12.

annnnd...

and these fabulous shoes, from Forever21 (ok, they weren't on sale, but still a bargain at £20 :D )

Now, if you've checked out my 25 before 25 list, you might be thinking 'this doesn't bode well for number 3'.  But, I feel it's always a case of where do we go from here.  So, new plan, to balance out the January sales I'm going to create for my self No-shopping February.  Can I do it?  I blumming hope so!

A Question for you

I have always loved learning, big fat book worm.  So this period of inert, jobless state I'm looking forward to a time when I can afford to take on an evening class or something.   I'm also looking forward to doing a Masters as soon as I can afford it.  I also hope you look quite as stylish as the student above while studying again :-)

I'll probably enrol in a evening class every year, but one option I'm thinking of doing is further A-levels.  I've done some research and it turns out they only cost £200 for the year.  Maybe I'll do one next year if I don't enrol in the Masters at Leicester University I've got my eye on. 

I'd want to do the A2 level year for English Literature, having an AS under my belt already, but I didn't carry it on to A2 because I was thinking I'd need Chemistry for university (I was wrong).  As I was better at English this was a shame, but I think it'd be fun to carry on as I still LOVE English and reading.

So, the question for you... is there a subject you wished you had done/ hadn't dropped at A-level/high school or what not?? 

And another question (spur of the moment addition)... What, out of everything, would you be interested in studying in a evening course?
