Greenbelt Baby!

Another year has gone by and Greenbelt, again, as always, was awesome!  I love the festival, it's usually the most relaxing weekend of the year, because there are no pressures, not required activities, just interesting and fun things to do.  This was my 6th year, which I can hardly believe, and every year I come away, wishing that I could do it over again.  Well, wishing I could have a shower and sleep in my own bed for a night before doing it all over again.

Dave and I had managed to convince a few of our university friends to join us and I do believe that they, too, had a fabulous time! :-)  I think a couple of them thought they'd got rid of us forever, but we've since made plans to sleep on their floor next time we're up at Keele, so no luck of that- Sorry!

So, favourite Greenbelt memories from this year include 'discovering' Edwina Hayes, a singer/songwriter from the UK with a stunning voice that I can't get enough of.  She is the one who sings 'Feels like home' at the end of the film 'Lovely Bones', and, if you know that song, I hope you'll agree that it's just purely beautiful.

In addition to her music, I also really enjoyed the affirming talk that Rob Bell gave from  main stage.  His message - Be you, if you've only got a little to give, give it all, because it is everything.  I happened to go to a few talks that have given me some inspiration of how I can make my mark on the world for God.  I always aim high, in the hopes that one day I'll make it, so watch this space:-)

Thank you Greenbelt for the memories, and see you again next year, perhaps after persuading more and more people to join us!

Has anyone else been to a festival this year?
Which one? and What were your best bits?

p.s. my back ground image is one Dave took at Greenbelt a few years ago, it's of balloons we all let off at the communion service to send our prayers heavenward.

But, this is the first of July...

If you haven't yet heard of Foy Vance, you probably haven't been listening to Husband's Ipod play lists.  He is a singer-song writer, or Troubadour (just a great word...), from Dublin, who I first heard at Greenbelt a few years ago.  He writes beautiful music, but this song really was written for today.

You can pull up the lyrics or listen really carefully to the video, but it is about starting over on the first of July.

We might not need to start over as dramatically as the song, but it is good reminder that the world is full of new starts; new years, new months, new weeks and new days.  And we can choose to take each new start to do with what we want.  Basically, don't wait to the first of January to feel like the year starts over again, because you can don the same on the first of July.

'Oh, I don't feel particularly good, no
But don't you worry about me I'll get by
That was the last day of June, oh
And this is the first of July.
'

Friends who Sing

We headed out tonight to watch our first Chapel Singers concert, because Fran and Emma were singing :-)

They were beautiful, singing some of my favourite songs from musicals and the like.

It was also Fran's last day with us at Keele :-(.  Three short years together, and that era is over.  Although university hasn't always been the easiest place to be, we've come out the other side, managed to stay close, and support one another.  Luckily for her, however, she's not getting rid of me that easy!  Friends never really say good bye, just see you later.

Good Work Girls,

Musical Choices

Photo from here

I'm not always one to make sure I spend the time I should with God in my day.  It is far too easy to fill my time with other things, so this week I am only listening to worship music, all week.  For a decent amount of time.  I'll let you know what come of this venture, and post a song a day!
