Gastronomique Fantastique V

One of my absolute favourite things about the Christmas holidays is a little party we like to call The Gastronomique Fantastique...

"What on earth is that??" I hear you cry.  Well, let me tell you a little story.

In 2006, Husband and his mate Tom decided that what they wanted to do, more than anything else, to really challenge themselves, was to cook a seven course meal.  And, not just seven courses to push them, but a seven course meal for (roughly) 20 people.

I don't know about you, but until I actually went to this meal, I couldn't guess what the seven courses could be- that is a lot of food!  so here they are, to give you an better idea of what the boys were in for (and what our stomachs had to stretch out for!).

A seven course meal comprises of:
  1. Aperitif
  2. Starter
  3. Soup Course
  4. Fish Course
  5. Main Course
  6. Dessert
  7. Cheese Board
The night was awesome, the food, delicious and the boys, very proud of them selves.  So this became a tradition, happening every Christmas holidays since, all be it a ever so slightly less extravagant affair now.

This year we had 18 people come for a beautiful 4 course meal (they gained some sense, those boys did).  Including a wonderful, very rare beef wellington and my very own chocolate roulade.

This is a tradition that I love so much because, especially while people were at university up and down the nation, it was the opportunity to meet up with them all and catch up.  now that we've all graduated from undergrad, some people have stayed in the Leicester area, but it is still a fabulous occasion, and I look forward to it happening every year, from here to forever.

Christmas is never quiet

Source: google.com via Sherri on Pinterest

Hey y'all!  How was your Christmas's???

I am still in the middle of a very busy week but I wanted to take the time and write about our Christmas.

This was our first Christmas in our own home, having spent our first married christmas on holiday from university with David's parents.  I was so lovely to just relax and hang out together, starting traditions such as opening stockings and having pancakes for breakfast.

After church my Dad and little sister, Grace, came over for dinner, which Dave and I cooked together.

It was so much fun, and it was one of my goals from 25 before 25! Yay!  But I feel like a fool, because I forgot to take any photos from the whole day!

I've heard that it takes women until the age of 38 to feel confident about cooking Christmas dinner, and a further 5 years before they think of it as 'easy'.

I don't know if that's true for everyone, but I think our start this year at lest set me off on the right foot! :-D

Merry Christmas!!!

Christmas Count Down

Christmas Eve is upon us, people!

I don't know about you, but Christmas eve is just as exciting and busy for me as Christmas day.

Because we have to see my mum, my dad and David's parents over Christmas, the fesivites start today.

We're having lunch with David's parents and Grandpa then heading to my mum's our own Christmas day.  We pretend that we're not 24hrs early and have Christmas dinner, and presents and head on to the Midnight service at church.

This makes Christmas Eve just as exciting and wonderful, so I wish you all a Merry Christmas eve!  And Looking forward to doing it all again tomorrow with my Dad and lil' sister!

Blessings,

This week on pinterest I'm looking at Nativity sets.  I have a beautiful set that I've stolen inhearited from my mum.  Buuut, I've lost it somewhere in the moving around between home, and uni home and new home :-(

I know it's around some where so I'm not worried.

Christmas Times at the Pantomime

I love the Pantomime!!!

It's totally one of the best traditions of Christmas.  It's sill and fun, you get to hang out with the family, eat sweets and just feel Christmassy!

We went to the Town Hall to watch the local pantomime with our families and some friends to see 'Mother Goose'.

What was particularly brilliant was that the guest star was a colleague of my mum's partner from the local radio, so he was called up on stage to embarrass himself :-D

Are you going to see your local pantomime this year?
What other traditions are you loving this Christmas time?
Do you enjoy the sillyness of it all as much as me??

A cat moment

I was having a bit of a moment at work today, you know, when everything is coming at you all at once and you just have to get on with it.

As soon as it was over I escaped to the staff room, and had a little cuddle with our school cat.

God bless that cat, it helps regain my sanity on a regular basis.

Count Down!

To the end of the school term- 5 working days!!!!
This term has been killer! It actually has been one of the longest half terms ever, at 9 weeks long.  Usually half terms are 6-7 weeks long and the extra 3 weeks has been painful!

But the end is in sight.  This time next week I will be on holiday- Christmas will be upon us!

And I simply CANNOT wait.

My First Craft Fair

Hey,

Today Pete, my father-in-law, and I went to my first craft fair at a school in Leicester.

It really wasn't a busy fair, lots of parents came to see the children's choir, but then it got really quiet.  Probably because of this, we didn't sell much, people came by and had a look, but I only sold one necklace.

I was selling the necklaces and the tea cup candles I blogged about here, and some mini bunting I made.  Pete makes awesome homemade cards using photographs he's taken.

I found one other stall that sold 'vintage'-y, cute homemade stuff which was my 'compatition', from whom I was inspired for more makes and stuff.

My dad surprised me and popped by though!  It was very cool, and we had a wander round, bought a couple of little gifts for Christmas and just hung out with us for a while.

Although there wasn't much action today, I still had fun, and am totally up for doing another one.  It feels like we need to go around a few fairs to find our niche and learn which ones are more 'crafty'.

Challange Accepted

Hubby has bought me a new house plant!

A bonsi tree.

As you'll see on my 25 before 25 list keeping a houseplant alive is something I aspire to.

So far, just since we got married, I have owned, and killed, 5 different houseplants.

oh dear!

So, bonsi tree's are suposed to be really difficult to kill off, as they dont need a lot at attention, or a lot of water, and if you do neglect them for a while, they are resilient and should recover.

So, here I go.  Plant #6.  Good luck, little one, I promise to try and keep you alive.

Cupcake Envy

So, I am quite competitive.

Not many people know that about me because I'm able to control it unless its something I really care about, and I hate losing so much I often choose not to partake in competitions unless I'm confident I've a chance to win.

So, when it comes to baking, I can be very competitive indeed.

Often in competitions with people who don't realise we're competing.

For example, at my friend Naomi's wedding this weekend, I was feeling major cake envy after looking at the beautiful cupcakes another of her friends made.

The table's were named after the verses in the song '12 Days of Christmas' and the cupcakes appropiatly decorated to match.

They were beautiful.

And I have got to learn how to do similar stuff with sugar craft.
